Meet Gea, affectionately known as Nala around the barn – a 9-year-old Thoroughbred mare by Animal Kingdom out of Seek a Star. With an impressive 49 career starts, she came close to warhorse status on the track, but now she’s ready to shine in a second career. Despite her extensive race history, Nala is incredibly sweet and personable. She’s easy to handle, happy to hang out all day with her stall guard up, ties quietly in the crossties or in her stall to be groomed or tacked, is great for the farrier, and is simple to bathe. She is currently turned out with a gelding, has also been turned out with mares, and is the same horse in either turnout setting.
Because of her successful racing career, Nala was given ample downtime before beginning her retraining, setting her up for long-term success. She’s fully up to date on dental and farrier care and has received both chiropractic, bodywork, and most recently had a Magnawave treatment to continue her successful retraining for a second career.
Nala has three comfortable gaits and already shows natural balance and rhythm. She is so smart and loves to work. She’s easy to lunge and enjoys having a job. She is a more forward type of ride, so we definitely could see her excelling in eventing, jumpers or even foxhunting. Everything we have introduced Nala to, she happily does, and does well. She can be ridden in dressage, where her lovely movement and self-carriage will definitely get you noticed; she can hack all around the property by herself or with a group, and even most recently, she has shown her love for jumping. Even though she is a more forward, she will do her job and then happily hack out on a long rein afterwards. She would make a great partner for a junior moving up the levels, a good riding amateur that wants something safe but also wants to enjoy a good time out in the field or show ring , or a professional that wants a very athletic project horse to take them up the levels.
Most recently, 3/14/2026, Nala went to Masterson Station, where she schooled up through some Beginner Novice XC fences and she loved it! She has a great gallop, easy lead change, and a great jump. She went up and down banks, through water, and over all the fences we asked her to jump. She trailers well, was quiet the whole time, unloaded well, and was easy to tack up in a new environment.
Nala horse showed at the KHP for the Paul Frazer horse show and was so good! It was a great experience for her where she learned a lot and improved so much in her training! She was confident in her stadium round, and even with her flat work continuing to be a work in progress, she had great compliments from the judge on how wonderfully bred she is, how she moves, how well she handled the show environment, and how she is going to make someone an excellent partner. If you are looking for your next jumper or event horse, Nala is your gal!
With Nala’s combination of athleticism, temperament, and heart, she is ready to shine in a second career!
