About Kalakaua

2018 16.0 ½ hh Dark Bay Thoroughbred Gelding by Elusive Quality out of a Kings of Kings mare

“King” retired sound with no injuries after 4 starts on the track, only hitting the board once.

Thanks to his compact and uphill build, King has naturally balanced gaits and offers an endless amount of potential for the ambitious rider! Restarted on the flat and over fences, King is a natural over fences. King happily goes in English or Western tack and wants a job. There is nothing but bottomless talent and diversity to unlock as King continues his training.

King is most suitable for an intermediate to advanced rider to unlock his full potential. He is a true athlete and wants a partner who will teach him his new job with clarity because he wants to be competitive. Once King understands the objective of his job, regardless of what that may be, he strives to do that job perfectly. King wants to do his job to the best of his ability each ride, have a little pampering, and be returned to his stall for some quiet time or back out to his friends in the field. King’s ideal future would include jumping whether it be in the hunter, jumper, eventing disciplines or even fox-hunting!

King is currently wearing front shoes only. He is a very mild cribber that is completely controlled with a loose collar. He does not crib while wearing an extremely loose collar here at the Secretariat Center. King stands quietly on cross ties as well as for the vet and farrier. He is an easy keeper, currently turned out between 12 and 18 hours a day, and up-to-date on vaccinations.
