Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center Hosts Annual Run for the Horses 5K

Lexington, KY—The Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center (MMSC), a non-profit equine adoption organization located in the Kentucky Horse Park, hosted the Run for the Horses 5K on June 1, 2019 at 7:30 PM. With 140 runners, over $5,000 was raised to benefit the MMSC’s adoptable OTTBs in their search for second careers and loving homes.

The twilight run followed a trail course through the world-famous Kentucky Horse Park and the magnificent 800-acre working farm behind the Park that is untouched by development. Runners received commemorative ribbons for finishing. Age group winners received gold, silver, and bronze painted horseshoes from racehorses at Keeneland and Churchill Downs. The top three male and female finishers were recognized with rosettes. Chip timing was provided by RaceRise.

The top male finisher award went to Oscar Gonzalez, who completed the 3.3 mi course in 22:11. Jared Hobson won 2nd place male overall, and D.R. Swanner finished 3rd male overall. Tiffany Baker completed the course in 26:05 to become the overall female winner, while Ashley Kehoe and Elizabeth Devor rounded out the top finishers as 2nd and 3rd place female overall winners, respectively. Full results can be found on the RaceRise website. Congratulations to all the runners, finishers, and winners.

“We are so proud of and thankful to everyone who came out to Run for the Horses to help raise funds for our amazing horses,” said MMSC Executive Director Susanna Thomas. “These Thoroughbreds are the lifeblood of our city and of the racing industry, and it is a privilege to run for them just as they have run for us.”
