The Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a Thoroughbred Charities of America (TCA) grant for 2015! The mission of the TCA is to provide a better life for Thoroughbreds, both during and after their racing careers by supporting rescue, retirement and research and by helping the people who work with them. TCA is a charitable 501(c) (3) organization which follows a "United Way" methodology, providing the Thoroughbred industry and its supporters a way to give to one organization while helping many. Over the past 24 years TCA has provided nearly $20 million grants to more than 200 Thoroughbred-related organizations.
The MMSC has been a lucky recipient of TCA’s generosity for many years. This year the MMSC will use the grant to help pay for farrier and dental expenses.
“Before we commence reschooling any horse the first two ESSENTIAL areas of concern are the mouth and the feet," says MMSC Director Susanna Thomas. "If the teeth or the hooves are uneven, the horse will be unbalanced and this will affect its performance, soundness, and ability to train. We are so very grateful to the TCA for recognizing the importance of these concerns in our approach to reschooling Thoroughbreds for new careers and for their continued support of our program each year! Thank you TCA!”
