About Eiteljorg

Eiteljorg (pronounced “eye-til-yorj”), a 16.2hh, 2012 gelding, is a true prince. As we’ve already mentioned, he is the half-brother of Yessuh, adopted from the MMSC last fall, and he comes to us from the same owner and breeder. With a pedigree of Cherokee names (he's by Jazil out of Nanyehi by Cherokee Run), the owner decided to name this new colt after Harrison Eiteljorg, an Indianapolis businessman and philanthropist who founded the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art, "to inspire an appreciation and understanding of the art, history and cultures of the American West and the indigenous peoples of North America.” (www.eiteljorg.org) While he is newly off the track and still tight in his body, he has proven to be gallant, kind, athletic, affable, and courteous. He has a natural poise that shines through his actions on the ground, and we are finding the same to be true under saddle. We don’t know yet what he will want to do in a second career, but we do know he will be a wonderful ambassador both for his breed and for the ideals of his namesake wherever he goes.
