Polls are now open in the Retired Racehorse Project’s 2015 Ambassador Award for the Thoroughbred Makeover. This award is intended to honor the Makeover team who has most inspired in other trainers, Thoroughbred owners and horse lovers an appreciation for the talent and trainability of the off-track Thoroughbred. Please vote for the MMSC Dream Team because of the responsible owners at My Meadowview Farm who retired this horse before he broke down, because of the commitment of former Olympian Dorothy Crowell who took on his training as a way to showcase the MMSC’s mission, and because of Rosie Napravnik, who put her name and her self on the line in support of the TB Makeover simply because she reveres Thoroughbreds and wanted to do anything and all she could to promote them. Voting is live at this link. Only one vote may be cast per IP address. Please share Rosie and Darren’s story with all your friends and family members, and vote for this remarkable and awe-inspiring team for the 2015 Ambassador Award.
Dare Me aka "Darren", 16.2hh, 2010 gelding by Johannesburg out of 2011 broodmare of the year Oatsee is a member of the MMSC Dream Team. He is an extraordinary horse with amazing talent who has the large responsibility of being the ambassador for the Maker’s Mark Secretariat Center. Bred and raced by the Riggio family of My Meadowview Farm, he was donated to the MMSC to carry out the special role of being a “legacy horse” for our program. This means that because of his exceptional talent and unflappable mind, Darren is a prototype for the versatility and athleticism of the breed, which is what the MMSC is all about. Dare Me is athletic, sane, gracious, and all heart. Clearly an upper level eventing phenomenon to be. His adoption fee we hope will cover the costs of many horses’ needs at the MMSC who may not have his looks and talent, but whose stories and contributions to mankind are worthy of support and praise as well.
Famous jockey Rosie Napravnik was looking for a TB Makeover horse and chose Dare Me as her ideal mount. But given the fact that she was “in foal” at the time, she relinquished the early training of this horse first to the MMSC staff and then to acclaimed international eventer Dorothy Crowell. As soon as she had her beautiful son Carson, Rosie began to work in earnest with Dorothy to reschool this amazing horse. Rosie’s story of overcoming multiple former injuries and subjugating herself to learning how to not only reschool a horse from the ground up but also to learning a whole new way of using her body and riding a horse, even though she is a world class rider in her own profession, AND doing all this with a newborn infant, is nothing short of remarkable!
Please vote for this exceptional team! The MMSC Dream Team has dedicated themselves to promoting the athleticism and versatility of the off-track Thoroughbred, and their athleticism and tenacity has awed and inspired crowds wherever they go. Dare Me and Rosie are truly an inspiration, and deserving of this award and honor.
