Every year the Kentucky Horse Park welcomes the public on Hats Off! Day to come for free to learn about and enjoy horses. It’s a tribute to and a celebration of these wonderful animals and all they do, giving us pleasure, providing between 80,000 and 100,000 jobs and an estimated 8 billion dollars to our economy. The events of the day are varied from free pony rides, educational booths, interactive equine stations and demonstrations. In the evening there is The Rood & Riddle Kentucky Grand Prix, a challenging show jumping competition between top international horses and riders held in the beautiful outdoor Rolex Stadium.
Early this morning (5am to be precise), a team of intrepid interns led by MMSC Barn and Media Manager Catherine Flowers arrived and readied two MMSC horses, Regiment and Maine Avenue, to be taken down to the Rolex stadium for the shooting of a television ad to promote the event. There, Hall of Fame jockeys Jean Cruguet and Chris McCarron awaited them. McCarron was given a quick leg up on Reggie and Cruguet on Maine, and they rode around the arena with the cameras rolling.
“A lot of people don’t know that we are at the Horse Park and that we have lovely reschooled Thoroughbreds available for adoption, so to have that mention on ABC36 News WTVQ was really nice, “ said MMSC Director, Susanna Thomas. “We hope that many people saw the story throughout the day and will come to celebrate all that horses do for Kentucky! What was truly sensational though for us at the MMSC was to have two such legendary jockeys as Chris McCarron and Jean Cruguet aback our horses. WOW! That’s a once in a lifetime experience that we will treasure here at the MMSC.” Hats off to Hats Off Day at the Kentucky Horse Park.
